Unveiling Kenya’s Democratic Landscape (Part 1)

Following the declaration of independence in 1963, Kenya witnessed a surge of optimism in its political landscape. However, the country soon fell into a state of political and economic unrest, marked by a corrupt and repressive regime led by President Moi. This decline can be partly attributed to the presence of neo-patrimonial practices deeply ingrained in the country’s political system. AWAKEN

We seem to separate life into two categories; we place self in one, and everyone else in the other. And what happens in our minds is that we automatically assume that the other group has everything figured out. We sometimes conclude that we are the only ones who don’t know; the only ones who areContinue reading “AWAKEN”

In another world

In another world, her mother’s life is not solely defined through the lenses of motherhood. Her body doesn’t house her children for a sum total of twenty-seven months. She thought that she was just too much to have the kind of relationship she desired. She would ask herself questions like who would hold aContinue reading “THE REMNANT(S)”

WHITE LIES

Q: How are you A: I am fine, you? I wonder how many people answer this question with utmost honesty. I am very sure that we pack up our white lies in a variety of pretty words. Call it protecting ourselves from a lot of boring conversations or another incoming failed talking stage. You canContinue reading “WHITE LIES”

DEAR GRIEF

As I stare at this blank page, I am realizing that this isn’t the first letter addressed to you. However, it is the first that is written with a glimmer of hope. You came into my life uninvited and made a home in my heart, my mind and my soul. You brought me tears, sleeplessContinue reading “DEAR GRIEF”
